Proxy IP not changing: why checkers still show your real IP

Updated:

This one comes with no error message: pages load normally, the IP shown is just still your ISP's. That almost always means traffic is not going through the proxy, or the checking page reads your IP through another path. A genuinely broken proxy produces errors, not your old IP.

The usual causes

  • Checking the IP somewhere other than where you set it. The proxy is in an antidetect profile but you open the checker in regular Chrome, or it is in Firefox and you look in Edge.
  • The phone is on mobile data. Proxies on iPhone and Android belong to a specific Wi-Fi network; mobile data goes straight out.
  • The app ignores the system proxy. A Wi-Fi or Windows proxy is only a hint, and some apps open their own connections.
  • A VPN or extension overrides it. An active VPN or a Chrome proxy extension decides the route instead of the setting you just edited.
  • Unsaved profile or stale tab. Editing the proxy in an antidetect browser without saving leaves the old configuration in use; tabs opened earlier can keep old connections.
  • WebRTC exposes your real IP. The main IP did change, but the checker also collects an address through WebRTC and shows the real one.

Compare IPs with one command, bypassing the browser

Run two commands and compare the ip field: curl -s https://vinaproxy.com/api/my-ip (no proxy) and curl -s -x http://user123:[email protected]:8080 https://vinaproxy.com/api/my-ip (through the proxy, with your own values). Two different IPs mean the proxy works and the fault lies in how your device or browser applies it.

Without a terminal, paste the line into the proxy checker, which reports the proxy's exit IP. Then open what is my IP in the exact browser or profile you configured and compare.

Fixes by environment

  • Windows/Chrome: confirm Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy was saved, disable proxy extensions and VPNs, then fully quit and reopen Chrome.
  • Antidetect browsers: save the profile, close its browser window and launch it again. See GenLogin proxy setup.
  • iPhone: Settings > Wi-Fi > (i) > Configure Proxy applies to that Wi-Fi only. Turn off mobile data while testing; see iPhone proxy setup.
  • Android: the proxy lives in each Wi-Fi network's settings; joining another network drops it.
  • Code: Python requests only uses a proxy when you pass proxies; if you rely on environment variables, set both HTTP_PROXY and HTTPS_PROXY.

Static IPs: what to do when you want a different one

VinaProxy static proxies keep one IP for the whole order, which is a feature rather than a fault. For a different IP, use another proxy line from your order or buy additional IPs. If the IP changed correctly but the country looks odd, look it up with the IP lookup tool and check for leaks with the WebRTC leak test.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Get the proxy's exit IP

Paste the proxy line into the proxy checker and note the exit IP.

  2. 2

Check the IP where you configured it

Open my IP in the very browser, profile or phone that has the proxy.

  3. 3

Disable VPN, extensions and mobile data

Remove anything that could override the proxy, then close and reopen the browser.

  4. 4

    Test for WebRTC leaks

Run the WebRTC leak test; if your real IP shows, adjust WebRTC handling in the browser or profile.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my proxy always give the same IP?

Because it is a static proxy: each line keeps one fixed IP until it expires, which keeps accounts stable. Use a different line for a different IP.

The checker shows both the proxy IP and my real IP.

That is usually WebRTC. Antidetect browsers offer a WebRTC replace mode; regular browsers need a setting or extension.

I set the proxy in Windows but one app still shows my real IP.

That app may not read the system proxy. Try a per-app proxy tool such as Proxifier.

The IP changed but shows the wrong country.

IP location databases update unevenly. Re-check with the IP lookup tool; if it still differs from your order, open a ticket.
