Static or rotating proxy: choose by the job
Updated:
A static proxy keeps one IP for the whole rental period. A rotating proxy draws IPs from a large pool and changes the IP on every request or after a set time. Work tied to a login, such as account farming, running ads or managing shops, needs static proxies; sending huge numbers of anonymous requests, such as large-scale scraping, suits rotating proxies.
What is a static proxy?
A static proxy is a fixed IP address delivered to you as ip:port:user:pass. Today or at the end of the month, websites see the same IP, the same provider and the same location. There are two common kinds: IPv4 datacenter proxies (IPs owned by infrastructure providers) and static ISP proxies (IPs registered to consumer internet providers). The difference is explained in ISP vs datacenter vs residential.
What is a rotating proxy?
A rotating proxy gives you a single gateway with a pool of IPs behind it. On every request, or every few minutes, the gateway goes out with a different IP. You cannot pick a specific IP or keep it for long. The mechanism is covered in what is a rotating proxy.
Which type fits your work
The right question is not which type is better, but whether your work needs a stable identity.
| Job | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Running many social media accounts | Static | Each account logs in from the same IP every day, like a real user |
| Running ad accounts | Static | An IP that changes between sessions easily triggers verification |
| Managing Shopee, TikTok Shop or Lazada shops | Static | A shop is tied to a stable location and device |
| Logging in to services with an IP whitelist | Static | The whitelist only accepts the exact IP you registered |
| Scraping hundreds of thousands of pages | Rotating | One IP per request lowers rate-limit blocks |
| Local SEO rank checks | Static or rotating | Static for a small number of queries from a fixed location; rotating for very large volumes |
| Long-running games or apps | Static | Long connections are not cut when the IP changes |
Pros and cons of each type
| Criterion | Static proxy | Rotating proxy |
|---|---|---|
| IP | One fixed IP you know exactly | Many IPs, changing constantly |
| Login sessions | Stable, no logouts caused by IP changes | Can drop or ask for verification when the IP changes |
| Many requests in a row | One IP hits rate limits sooner | Spread across many IPs |
| Common pricing | Per IP per month | Usually per GB of traffic or per port |
| Control | You decide when to change IPs | The provider decides the next IP |
Can a sticky session replace a static proxy?
Many rotating services offer sticky sessions that hold one IP for a few minutes up to a few dozen minutes. That is enough for one sign-up or one checkout, but it does not promise the same IP tomorrow. For accounts that log in every day from the same place, a sticky session still does not replace a static IP.
Rotate on your own with a pool of static proxies
If you need both, rent a group of static proxies and let your tool cycle through the list. You know every IP in advance, you decide when to switch, and you can keep an old IP for the accounts that need it. Buying in quantity lowers the price per IP; see bulk pricing by quantity.
Most scraping tools accept a proxy list in ip:port:user:pass format. If yours needs another format, use the proxy format converter.
Static proxies at VinaProxy
VinaProxy currently sells static proxies: private IPv4 proxies in the United States, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the United Kingdom and Hong Kong, and static ISP proxies in the United States and Vietnam. Each IP is dedicated to one customer for the whole rental. Rotating proxies are paused; you can leave your email on the rotating proxy page to hear when they return.
Frequently asked questions
Does a static proxy change IP partway through?
No. The IP stays the same for the whole rental. If the IP has a problem, you can open a support ticket to have it checked.
Are rotating proxies safer for accounts?
Usually the opposite. An account that logs in from a new IP every time looks unusual to anti-fraud systems. For accounts, a dedicated static IP is safer.
Should I use rotating proxies for scraping?
Yes, when the request volume is very large and no login is needed. For moderate volumes, a group of static proxies rotated in your tool is usually enough and easier to control.
How many accounts can one static proxy handle?
The safest setup is one account per IP on each platform. Sharing one IP across several accounts on the same platform can get those accounts linked.
How do I check that a static proxy still has the IP I bought?
Paste it into the proxy checker: it shows the exit IP, country and latency. That IP should match the one in your order.
A dedicated static IP for each account
Static ISP proxies in the United States and Vietnam, a fixed IP for the whole rental, with username and password authentication.
